Ancestral trauma is a growing approach in soul healing practices. What is this and why is it important in modern health?
The idea of ancestral trauma includes therapeutic and spiritual strategies that identify what is considered “inherited” energetic or traumatic patterns that have been passed though family lines. Often unresolved pain influences parenting, treatment of others and overall mindset. While this is still a fairly new concept, it is essential to understand that many aspects of health can be involved in how family patterns are represented. Using the Soul Health Model™, I help you explore how each branch of health might be affected by the unseen layers of ancestral wounds.
Abusive patterns, ideas about wealth or scarcity, limiting beliefs, gender behavior, and so much more all fit under the concept of ancestral heritage. As a person travels through life, often their soul path leads them through experiences that are actually divinely designed to awaken them to these deep wounds, both directly and indirectly related to their own experiences and patterns. The idea of ancestral healing embraces the idea that identifying, releasing and/or resolving these patterns is not only part of a person’s individual healing, but also part of breaking the chains or patterns that would perpetuate others if this healing didn’t occur. From my perspective, this is part of certain individual’s soul evolution—in other words, their life lessons might be related to healing the wounds of those who came before as well. As healing occurs, it provides the opportunity to positively transform the collective family and/or culture in which the patterns exist.
Many healing strategies can assist in healing ancestral trauma—some traditional and some more holistic and/or sacred. These might include the process of consciously changing behavior, perceptions and mindset, releasing physical or emotional pain/discomfort (somatic healing) can be done through visualization, meditation, hypnosis, certain approaches to psychotherapy, empowerment work, sacred rituals, dance, and many other strategies.
